- Summary
Where do the ten kinds of illusory demons mentioned in Surangama Sutra come from? Shakyamuni Buddha said that all illusory demons are created by our illusions; therefore, he reminded his disciples to be careful in their spiritual practice and to clear all dark spots in their mind, no matter how trivial it is, otherwise they will be possessed by a lot of demons. Supreme Master Ching Hai pointed out that Shakyamuni Buddha talked a lot about the obstacles during spiritual practice for the sake of those who practice randomly; he didn’t say anything about practicing Quan Yin Method. He said that all Bodhisattvas should practice Quan Yin Method so as to attain Bodhi. Everyone can practice Quan Yin Method, all beings in the Dharma-ending age can practice it. There's no problem at all.
Why, in Surangama Sutra, do all demons relate to sexual relationships in the end? Master explains that this is the way to distinguish the true methods from the false ones in the Dharma-ending ae when there were numerous methods. It must be maya if someone encourages people to enjoy the world and the sexual relationships. We can see all spiritual practitioners since the ancient times are clean from sexual relationship, and no one messed with it. All practitioners, no matter with or without family ties, should be clear about the precepts in the spiritual practice. Whomever we follow, we should leave him right away if he does not keep the five precepts strictly; no matter how famous he is, and no matter he is a monk or layman, the five precepts should be fundamental.
